jessica_vitakJessica Vitak (PhD, Michigan State University) is a professor in UMD’s iSchool and affiliate professor in the Communication Department. Her research interests focus on how people are using new communication technologies to enhance their relationships, as well as how they manage the tensions between privacy and disclosure when interacting with others in these spaces. Student Researchers

priya-squareDuring this project, Priya Kumar was a PhD student in the iSchool at UMD and was advised by Jessica Vitak. She received her Master’s degree from the University of Michigan School of Information in 2014 and her PhD in 2021. Priya’s research focuses on how parents and children negotiate technology and privacy. For more information, see her website.

yuting-liaoDuring this project, Yuting Liao was a PhD student in the iSchool at UMD and was advised by Jessica Vitak. She received her Master’s degree from Georgetown’s Communication, Culture and Technology program in 2015 and her PhD in 2021. Her research is interested in the intersection of health, aging, and technology.

Dutch Collaborators

Jason Pridmore is a professor in the Department of Media and Communication at Erasmus University Rotterdam.focuses his research on the intersections between consumer use of new information and communication technologies and the areas of security, privacy and surveillance.

Daniel Trottier is a professor in the Department of Media and Communication at Erasmus University. His current research considers the use of digital media for the purposes of scrutiny, denunciation and shaming as well as working on issues of mobile privacy and security concerns.

During this project,Anouk Mols was a PhD student at Erasmus University, under the supervision of Dr. Pridmore. She received her PhD in 2021. Her research examines the daily privacy practices of users of mobile technologies.
